There has been a lot of buzz lately surrounding the upcoming 1.8 update for Minecraft. Notch has stated that the 1.8 update will be the single largest upgrade to the game since first developed. Over the last month Mojang has released quite a bit of info regarding the 1.8 update via Twitter, Facebook, Google + and Notch’s blog. I decided to take all the info we have been given and create a post to give players a better understanding of what the update will contain.
So lets get started, here is what we know is being added for the 1.8 update:
New blocks
New Food
NPC villages
Randomly generated dungeons
New Mobs
Full featured creative mode
Changes to the PVP element in the game
Sprinting
More farming options
New biome generator
New tittle screen and multiplayer screen
New Lighting system
Update #1
Rumor has it that more music disks are coming out to follow the changes made in the 1.6 update.
Update #2
New combat system. A new combat system will be implemented with a new health system and hunger bar as well as a XP system.
Update #3
Minecraft 1.8 is scheduled to be released sometime in September.
Update #4
Notch tweeted a screenshot displaying how rivers and ravines will look like.

According to a Facebook post we can expect to see Minecraft 1.8 released sometime this week.
“The date for 1.8 is expected to be released this week. I saw jeb_ scratching his head to make this happen. So it must be a good thing 
”
We can expect Minecraft 1.8 to be released on Thursday September 8th.

You forgot about the new lighting system that eliminates a lot of the chunk update lag. Notch has tweeted about it a lot since they revealed 1.8.

You missed the new combat stuff, new weapons, mobs with attack movements (they move in someway when they atack now) and all that sh*t.

Dat hunger bar…
You missed a LOT of stuff in that. Stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, iron bars, glass panes, possible rivers, ravines, “Strongholds” not dungeons, new biome code, new lighting system, cooked/raw chicken, possible steak, and way more.

There is also something new next to hearts on the right hand side, and thanks to the screenshots
it shows that it isn’t armor at all. Notch also announced Melons (grown like Pumpkins,
Mushroom Biomes (will spawn like a forest biome/area but will contain mushrooms, after 1.8
it will be the only place to find mushrooms), The official name for the new mob is The Endermen
(they teleport block by block to come after you if angered). There is also a glitch where if you place
a single block of dirt in a huge area of water and grow wheat off of it, the block of dirt that is inside
the water glitches pretty bad- this and random weather (when a forest and snow biome mix and
there is a mix of rain and snow right next to each other) are rumored to be fixed. With the
weather, it will just be made a little further away.

hmmm i think notch is going to add duel weilding or toarches glow when holded because in the 1.8 anouncement post the cartoon shows him holding 2 items a sword and a toarch. the toarch is also glowing. maybe this is a secret or just a coincedence

Yes, but that is a major thing. Mushroom Biomes are Biomes, meaning that there is an entirely
different area that only spawns Mushroom like structures and plants, with the exception of grass.
The NPC Villages are a semi-biome, meaning that they can spawn on other biomes, but have no
influence on the plants or most of the ground around them.
CONFIRMED BY MARKUS PERSSON:
-Farmable Melons (Watermelons) & Pumpkins.
-Not just NPC Villages, Interactive NPC Villages, and the ability to help/destroy them.
-Stone Dungeons are a confirmed semi-biome.
-Creative Mode is confirmed and will be available on SMP and is able to be assigned by player.
(For example, if you want your server staff to be able to easily fly, replace and destroy blocks to
prevent griefing by random players, and to be just for the staff, you can).
-NO CONFIRMED RELEASE DATE FOR 1.8. IT WILL BE TESTED THEN ANNOUNCED ON
THE OFFICIAL TWITTER/FACEBOOK AFTERWARDS OF WHEN IT IS.

That is the release date for the finished game. Not for 1.8 beta.

Will there be any different mobs like maybe wearwolfs and stuff at night.
I’m not sure. Notch has said there will be some new “mobs” with an “s” at the end so I am assuming more then one. Hopefully we get some new wildlife. (Ducks, bears, fish, ect). That would be really cool.

Notch never ruined Minecraft, He specifically made it so that The Endermen(man)
couldn’t move or destroy Player placed blocks, Anyway the Creeper is a mob that griefs.
I like it how they say “sandstone slabs” will be added, even tho “Sandstone slabs” already exists since a previous update

Notch did not say he was expanding the skybox, he simply made it easier for modders to do so.

Hey I’m not too sure but notch mentioned in a tweet that the height of the map will be easier to mod, because the height now depends on a single .class file. The standard will remain 128 blocks heigth, because there would be performance issues for lower end computers. So the whole skybox thing is a bit misleading in my opinion. (Of course i would LOVE to have a higher height limit,though. )

Ok first of all everyone read through the whole post until u say he forgot something. secondly u did forget that notch said it was going to be possible to play without hunger bar and third, silver fish are already implemented into the game and were supposed to be released on 1.7.3 but Jeb decided to do a bit of tweaking to them.
Thts wrong they just made the clouds higher the build limit is still the same

There’s a few inconsistencies in your list though.
The height limit is not going to change. A week or two ago he was working on making it easier for modders to change the height limit. He even posted a screenshot of an increased height limit but he has said nothing about changing the height limit.
There isn’t going to be lanterns. His last mention of lanterns was in June via twitter and he said he was having trouble with the lighting but hasn’t stated anything anywhere about them being included in the 1.8 Adventure Update.
What are Iron Reeds? You mean Iron Bars? There are going iron bars in the ruins and such and we’ll probably be able to craft them, but what are iron reeds? Reeds are a plant
